On Monday, Chandigarh got connected to yet another international destination after an Air India flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok landed at Chandigarh. The flight will be available for three times a week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Earlier Air Express and Indigo started operations from Chandigarh to Sharjah and Dubai.
The incoming flight from Bangkok to Chandigarh brought 32 passengers and landed in Chandigarh at 08:40 PM while the outgoing flight took off at 02:00 PM with 117 passengers to Bangkok.
The CEO of Chandigarh International Airport Limited said the service was a part of the long pending demand and the North Indian states have a large number of visitors traveling to Bangkok every year.
A press conference was held by Air India officials who were accompanied by Isra Stapanaseth, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand. The Air India officials said, “A320 Neo Aircraft has been deployed on the five-hour long route. The ongoing rush on the route is expected to decrease in the coming days.” said Executive Director Mr. Pankaj Kumar after being quizzed about the ongoing rush in the flights. He further stated that new flights cannot be introduced overnight and the process will take some time.
Isra Stapanaseth said that there has been a significant increase in the number of Indians traveling to Bangkok, “More than 1.2 million Indians had already visited Bangkok this year. The flight will ease the convenience for the people traveling to Bangkok from the nearby region.”
