Sona Kitna Sona Hai…
The customs officials at Chandigarh Airport arrested a smuggler on Friday, who was carrying 2.92 KG gold, reportedly in a vacuum cleaner. The recovered gold was worth Rs. 80 Lakh.
The accused is a 31-year-old Delhi resident and was returning from Dubai. According to customs officials, he travelled from Delhi to Dubai on December 5. He had planned to reach Delhi back, through a connecting flight from Chandigarh.
The coordination among customs intelligence staff made nabbing of the smuggler possible. According to sources, the smuggler looked suspicious during the flight. He had reportedly replaced the internal parts of the vacuum cleaner with gold bars. The accused was arrested on the spot but was later released on bail.
The customs intelligence and baggage officers have caught many cases of gold smuggling at Chandigarh Airport since the Dubai flight started.
